The Omega Speedmaster was chosen by NASA in 1965 after outperforming numerous other contenders in rigorous testing including the famed Rolex Daytona. More Speedmasters were purchased starting with the Apollo program astronauts being issued the "Professional" marked 105.012's in a beefier case with crown and pusher protectors as seen here. They remain flight qualified by NASA to this day and modern interpretations of this watch are still in production.
